First independent laboratory in Spain to test commercial refrigeration equipment started operations

13-11-2023 Energy performance tests | News

CEISLAB has designed and built Spain’s first independent laboratory exclusively for commercial refrigeration units and equipment. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the field of commercial refrigeration by enabling verification of compliance with increasingly stringent energy performance requirements.

The new facility allows the testing of cabinets, wall cabinets, showcases and islands for the display and sale of frozen and refrigerated foods. All its climatic classes are listed in the UNE-EN ISO 23953-2 test standard “Commercial refrigerated cabinets. Part 2: Classification, requirements and test conditions (ISO 23953-2:2015)’. The types of units to be tested may be “plug-in” type, i.e. with integrated condenser and also with remote condenser.

In this way, all parameters required for the calculation of the energy efficiency index in accordance with the Energy Labelling (EU) 2019/2018 and Ecodesign (EU) 2019/2024 regulations for commercial refrigeration units can be determined.

The dimensions of the test room allow equipment up to 3.75 m in length to be tested. To characterise a family of appliances according to the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Regulations, the length of the representative appliance of a family is set at 2.5m.

Thus, in order to avoid extrapolation, the design of the test room allows the characterisation of any equipment up to 3.75 m in length that is intended to be marketed.

“The start-up of this laboratory is a significant achievement for the commercial refrigeration industry in Spain,” says Federico Muñoz, Deputy Director General of CEISLAB.

Our goal is to become a reference partner for manufacturers, certifying bodies and other institutions interested in improving the quality and performance of commercial refrigeration equipment, contributing to sustainable development and innovation in this field“.
